This position is part of the Government Secure and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Stennis Space Center, MS. Learn more about this agency Duties Responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, modifying, manufacturing and repairing all types of printing, binding, and all other industrial machinery and support equipment. Responsible for cutting, drilling, welding, and brazing various materials. Set up and operate machine shop equipment needed to fabricate or modify parts for site equipment. Perform bench work such as filling, scraping and use of other hand tools for sitting and assembling machine parts. Analyze, troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues with the intent of performing preventative maintenance and/or corrective maintenance. Maintain accepted trade and safety codes, standards and best practices. Requirements Conditions of employment U.S. Citizenship is Required. Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment. Selectee must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service. Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period. Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment. Strength test may be required. An extensive amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements are involved. Frequent lifting is required for objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent is sometimes required to lift and move items weighing more than 50 pounds with the assistance of weightlifting equipment or other workers. Duties are predominantly performed inside where there is exposure to flying metal chips, abrasive particles, noise, coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds. There are dangers to finders, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating or moving parts of equipment. Safety protection is required in all areas of the facility. Some work assignments can be outdoors in all-weather conditions. This position requires shift/weekend work. This position is mission essential. Qualifications To qualify for the Machinist, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is: Examples of experience include analyzing interrelated dimensions or complex configuration problems and determining effective solutions; troubleshooting on a wide range of machines and determine repair processes in conjunction with appropriate engineering and technical authority; assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of printing, binding and related machinery and equipment (i.e. printing and bindery, industrial trucks, power plant and air conditioning machinery); making independent interpretations of drawings and specifications that are lacking in dimensions, tolerances and types of fits and finishes, and making repairs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for a Secret Security Clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
