Summary
Serves as a Materials Handler Leader in Logistics Service at a VA Health Care System, in El Paso, Texas, supporting warehouse operations for a medical facility. Leads a team by assigning tasks, monitoring workflow, and ensuring safety and procedural compliance. Coordinates daily operations, provides guidance, and communicates priorities between staff and supervisors to ensure efficient and timely completion of warehouse functions.

Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Leads crew of Materials Handlers as a regular and recurring part of the job in order to accomplish assigned projects.
Ensures workers are aware of trade techniques and practices, and explains safety precautions to be followed while setting up machinery and equipment and operating related vehicles.
Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems.
Ensures workers are briefed on instructions received from supervisors, and getting work started, by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the crew.
Works along with other workers and sets the pace.
Demonstrates proper work method.
Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work.
Maintains a current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions.
Ensures assigned staff is provided with daily tasks and follows up to confirm task completion.
Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday through Friday; 8:00am - 4:45pm

Minimum Requirement: Experience includes: leading/supervising a crew or group to accomplish assigned projects and daily operational functions; ensure workers are aware of trade techniques and practices; answer questions on overall work operations and/or problems; work along with others and set the pace.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:
Work involves considerable walking, pushing and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment; offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds; handles equipment, furniture and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds (typically using specialized equipment and/or assistance of co-workers). Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of products over an extended period including turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries. While operating vehicles, may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrains and uncertain conditions.
Working Conditions require working in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty and poor lighting; work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons; hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities; will be subject to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury from the use of equipment; may be subject to conditions that could result in serious accidents; personal protective equipment may be required.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
