Summary
About the Position: This position is located within Defense Health Agency Region Indo-Pacific within Warrior Ohana Medical Home, Department of Family Medicine in Kapolei, Hawaii.
Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.
Duties
Act as primary authority on psychology within the clinic.
Perform biopsychosocial evaluations, mental health diagnoses and provides brief, problem-focused interventions.
Address a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, sleep disorders (insomnia), weight management, and substance abuse identification/brief interventions.
Provide expertise on human behavior to optimize health outcomes.
Establish policies for case consultation and determines appropriate dispositions for severe cases.
Provide evidenced-based individual treatment and psychoeducational classes for patients enrolled in primary care clinics.
Work with primary care team to develop processes to increase same day “warm handoffs” of patients from the primary care provider to the Behavior Health Clinic.
Advise Primary Care Managers (PCMs) and other medical staff on treatment plans and referral sources.
Conduct classes for stress management, tobacco cessation, and social skills.
Serve as a consultant for high-risk factors like suicide and trauma history.
Monitor objective behavioral outcome measures.
Review statistical data to modify program goals.
Provide guidance on the interpretation, approval of screening instruments and outcome measures.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
This position requires a valid unrestricted state license as a doctoral level Psychologist.
This position requires successful completion of Defense Health Agency Primary Care Behavioral Health Behavioral Health Consultant Competency Training within 3 months of hiring (unless HA is unable to provide training within 3 months).
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:
Degree: Successful completion of a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mental health assessments and diagnoses; assisting in individual and group behavior health treatment; developing treatment processes for orientation of patients and/or providing feedback to primary care managers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently offered by a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
