You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and integrating information in a variety of formats, such as graphs and tables, databases, and spreadsheets;
  • Demonstrating experience working independently or on a team to write, edit, and use research methodology to develop and prepare authoritative data and policies;
  • Conducting special studies and carrying out assignments of the very highest priority;
  • Communicating creatively in writing and designing innovative ways to reach audiences on matters that may be complex or controversial

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
