Job Description

Summary You will serve as Engineering Technician for the Engineering Division within the Engineering and Test Directorate. You will use your 3D modeling skills to generate 3D models as well as perform the checking function on 3D and 2D drawings to ensure modeling and drafting standards are met. You will use your knowledge of Creo, AutoCAD, Windchill, and specialized elements within those tools to define best practices. You will work with NASA Centers on Agency initiatives for Model Based Engineering. Learn more about this agency Duties Produce complex 3D models using PTC Creo. Model piping systems, structural elements, and assemblies related to test stands and propulsion test special test equipment. Implement Creo efficiencies and modeling best practices. Utilize expert knowledge of SSC Creo Modeling standard, drafting standards, and SSC conventions to perform checking function on 2D/3D models and drawings for facilities/propulsion projects. Create Spec Driven Piping elements, ModelCHECK rules, map keys, and CreoView representation tools to improve models and efficiencies. Utilize specialized skills to define best practices for the use of these elements in new and existing models. Coordinate and conduct training for Mechanical Design Engineers on the use of Creo at SSC for propulsion test projects. Coordinate and conduct training on Windchill best practices with respect to Creo and AutoCAD items. Define best practices in the interaction between Windchill and Creo objects, and between Windchill and AutoCAD objects. Ensure that all Windchill and Creo users are trained in the best practices. Utilize expert knowledge of common parts library maintenance, wtPart creation, Product Structure Management implementation, and Bill of Material (BOM) management to define best practices and train users in these areas. Perform tool evaluations on new and existing software tools, plugins and extensions to ensure SSC is using latest technologies and tools for efficient modeling. Work with other NASA Centers on Agency initiatives for Model Based Engineering and ensure that SSC adheres to NASA standards and industry best practices. Author standards and processes to move SSC towards Model-Based Definition (MBD). Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service: Generating 3D models and fabrication drawings of piping/structural systems using PTC Creo (or similar software), and integrating the models/drawings into the PTC Windchill configuration management system (or similar software); Assisting in resolving a range of 3D modeling/drafting problems (e.g. circular references, improper constraints) identified by ModelCHECK (or similar tool) and checking models/drawings to ensure compliance with standards; AND Generating and checking Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) drafted in AutoCAD (or similar software).
