Summary The position is located in the Division of Maintenance, National Capital Parks - East. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 03/20/2026 whichever comes first. Duties The major duties of the Maintenance Worker Supervisor include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs as a supervisor regarding employee recruitment, selection, and evaluation. Assigns, directs, and reviews the work of subordinate employees. Develops performance standards and evaluates the work performed, giving timely feedback and instructions as warranted, increasing efficiency and improving job performance. Identifies and corrects job safety and health hazards, initiates corrective measures for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act Standards, and directs the periodic inspection of all work places. Manages a union workforce and communicates effectively with union representatives through a collective bargaining agreement. Supervises and performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings (carpentry, painting, masonry), equipment and related utilities. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. . You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. Ability to lift 50 pounds Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting and reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Condition of Employment (Requirement): Ability to lift 50lbs: Applicants must demonstrate a degree of physical fitness necessary to perform duties. This includes ability to work for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions, ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and lift and move heavy items (in excess of 50 pounds) to chest level (SCREEN OUT). Driver's License: Applicant must possess and be able to maintain a valid state or District of Columbia driver's license (SCREEN OUT). If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Physical Demands: This position requires physical efforts in frequent movement of arms and legs, lifting and moving objects weighting up to 50 points and operating power tools.Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors. Works on steep, slippery and hazardous slopes, around moving equipment and with dangerous chemicals.
