SLUCare Otolaryngology is actively seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join our growing department at Saint Louis University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center for Missouri and Illinois. This position will have inpatient responsibilities, as well as serve as the Tracheostomy Coordinator throughout the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) Program
  • Current NP licensure in appropriate state
  • Experience in tracheostomies

SLUCare Physician Group and SSM Health have partnered for decades to provide exceptional medical services to patients at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, and most recently Saint Louis University Hospital.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Division Chiefs and in collaboration with the Medical Director and OMA, responsible for serving as a liaison for Advanced Practitioners in the Urology, Plastic Surgery, Gastroenterology and ENT divisions. Designation of Time: At least 50% of time designated to Surgical/Hospital Procedures.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess patient needs by obtaining history and conducting various diagnostic tests and procedures in order to provide qualified assessments and recommendations on the course of treatment, performing initial and ongoing assessment and performing ongoing pharmacological management, including prescription use and review of medications.
  • Plans for patient care by making comprehensive clinical decisions based on advanced diagnostic skills and professional judgment, reviewing of results of diagnostic tests and procedures, developing and implementing a treatment plan for the patient and/or family, and providing a wide range of interventions required to effect change.
  • Interventions are implemented by - prescribing and monitoring effectiveness of medications, ordering diagnostic tests and procedures, integrating assessment data into the treatment plan, using medical, therapeutic, and corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status, and providing patient education and teaching.
  • Evaluation of care is completed in collaboration with physician providing medical direction and consultation, ongoing assessments to identify effectiveness of interventions, modifying the treatment plan, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team as indicated.
  • Problem solving skills demonstrated by - making competent advanced clinical decisions, utilizing appropriate resources, appropriate consultation with physician, and appropriate involvement of management.
  • Communicates effectively by providing information for patients and families related to care, maintaining confidentiality, providing information to the collaborating physician related to changes in the conditions of clients, and documenting care given and response accurately.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Completion of a formal post-basic education program from or formally affiliated with an accredited college, university or hospital (Before July 1, 1998) or a graduate degree from an accredited college or university (After July 1, 1998) with a concentration in the appropriate advanced practice nursing clinical specialty area.
  • Board certification by a national recognized certifying board in the appropriate population focus
  • Current or compact RN license in appropriate state
  • Appropriate APRN license or document of recognition in appropriate state

EXPERIENCE

  • One year nursing experience

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • And 
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration 
  • Or 
  • Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State
