Summary About the Position: About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Surgery, Anesthesiology Service at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Provide anesthesia care — Deliver Monitored Anesthesia Care, general, and regional anesthesia for surgical, obstetric, and procedural cases; monitor patients, manage intraoperative physiology, and provide immediate postoperative care. Develop anesthetic plans — Assess patients preoperatively, determine optimal anesthesia methods, obtain informed consent, interpret diagnostic data, and adjust plans based on clinical changes. Serve as anesthesia consultant — Advise multidisciplinary teams on anesthesia options, risks, and evidence based practices; review current literature to support clinical decision making. Support quality and compliance — Participate in QA/QI, peer review, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation, and accreditation processes; evaluate care standards, improve outcomes, and maintain required certifications. Provide education and training — Teach and mentor CRNAs, students, and staff; deliver lectures, in services, and clinical instruction to advance anesthesia practice. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11 This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4. This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion Must have a current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) License. This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Anesthetist): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Anesthesia is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Licensure: Must have a current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) License. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience at the GS-12: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes administering various types of anesthesia (general, regional, local, and sedation) tailored to each patient's needs; monitoring and adjusting anesthetic agents to ensure patient stability during procedures. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
