Summary About the Position: The Advance Practice Nurse provides obstetrics and gynecological health care in the OB/GYN Clinic, Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC. Primary functions include assessing, planning, treating, counseling, and providing guidance and instructions to female patients with a variety of common, acute and chronic illnesses. Working hours are approximately 0700/0730 to 1600/1630. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Duties Provide urgent and non-urgent care for female patients of all ages. Obtain health history from the patient in person or by telephone. Examine results of laboratory tests, x-rays, and screening in assessing the patient's medical problems. Conduct pelvic examinations, pap tests, and/or mammography’s for female patients. Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments based on protocols. Interpret patients' needs to medical and/or nursing staff and other members of the health team. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Nurse Practitioner licensure in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia to meet annual requirements for the state of licensure. Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of Obstetrics, Neonatal, Midwife, or Women's Health. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11. Professional Nursing Experience is defined as performing diagnostic health exams on female patients; assessing physical health status of obstetrics patients; prescribing appropriate medications and treatments according to symptoms. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
