UP Health System - Portage in Hancock, Michigan invites qualified Board-Certified Advanced Practice
Providers (NP/PA) to join our Express Care team. We offer a unique opportunity to thrive in a

Position
Details:
Schedule: 6–10 hour shifts every 14 days with opportunities for additional shifts to cover
PTO.
Locations: Two Express Care/Walk-In Clinics in Houghton and Calumet.
Hours of Operation: 9 AM -
6 PM, seven days a week (9 AM - 2 PM on holidays).
Daily Coverage: One APP provides 10-hour coverage
per site.
Workload: 100% outpatient with no after-hours call. Current volumes average 25
patients/day in Houghton and 15 patients/day in Calumet.

Clinical
Services:
Testing: Waived testing including Covid antigen, PCR, strep, RSV, Influenza A&B, urine
dips, and urine hCG.
Procedures: Suturing of simple wounds.
Vaccinations: Tetanus &
Influenza.
Additional Services in Calumet: Occupational Health and X-ray services.
Staffing and
Facilities:
Houghton: 1 PSR and 1 Clinical staff member (MA/CMA/LPN) 7 days a week. Clinic
co-located with UP Health System Fitness Center.
Calumet: 1 PSR M-F with 1 Clinical staff member. MA
performs PSR role on weekends. Clinic co-located with UP Health System Physical Therapy and Rehab,
as well as an FQHC.
Practice Environment:
Houghton: Providers are assigned two rooms with clinical
staff assistance for rooming and completing waived POC testing. Expect to see an average of 25+
patients per day.
Calumet: Providers are assigned two rooms with an average of 15+ patients per day,
including COVID testing.

UP Health System – Portage has been serving the Western Upper Peninsula of

40 physicians and over a dozen allied health professionals. The main campus is a 36-bed hospital
with ancillary services including the area’s only Open Bore MRI, 64-slice CT scanner, PACS, nuclear
imaging, digital mammography and other radiological and laboratory services. Other services include
cardiopulmonary, certified sleep disorder center, regional dialysis unit, pharmacy, rehab,
audiology, a 12/7 hospitalist program, home care and hospice, and a 60-bed senior living
community.
UP Health System – Portage is home to the first Level III ASC-verified trauma center and
emergency department in the state, as well as an Express Care walk-in clinic.
