We would love for a motivated, skilled designer to join our team of user experience leaders, someone who wants to champion accessibility and inclusive design in our products, experiences, and services. Situated uniquely across internal business units, the Center of Excellence for User Experience is chartered to set direction and partner with product development to elevate user experience across all touchpoints.

The impact in this role will be substantial. You will establish expectations for the organization to deliver on Rockwell's commitment to expand human possibilities for all humans regardless of ability or background so that all people benefit from our products, services, and experiences. You will be responsible for strategy, education, coaching, and driving action to deepen and broaden inclusive design and accessibility in our offerings. You will identify opportunities, establish a roadmap, and monitor progress to achieve success.

The ecosystem is complex, nuanced, diverse, and innovative. You will work to continue to ensure that people are enabled work effectively and efficiently in the industrial automation space, to be productive in their roles, and ultimately to have a positive impact on our world, regardless of their background or their abilities.

What you will do

You will proactively and pragmatically connect with others in the organization from multiple disciplines to develop and execute a strategic accessibility and inclusive design vision and roadmap across the enterprise.

  • Be an advocate for inclusion, equity, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support readiness, planning and execution of accessibility and inclusive design initiatives.
  • Work closely with UX Professionals, Product Managers, and Engineering to ensure our customers and employees can experience use of our products and services equally.
  • Offer guidance and aid in spreading awareness of and supporting accessibility in the organization's culture and practices.
  • Maintain an understanding of the use of new and emerging digital accessibility trends, emerging technologies, and software development techniques while balancing best practices with new ideas and concepts.
  • Form and maintain connections to disability communities, and a commitment to building lasting network of relationships between these communities and Rockwell Automation.
  • Report on quantifiable improvements to accessibility and inclusion.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to design intuitive experiences that meet business and user needs.
  • Create well-crafted design deliverables.
  • Understand and stay current with trends and best practices in the user experience, user research, and industrial automation.
  • Understand the competitive landscape and how to translate that into opportunities.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and methodologies.
  • Team with others through mutually supportive professional relationships, open and direct communications, honesty, and respect. Able to cope with and leverage personality differences and differences of opinion.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Typically required 5+ years of experience in interaction/user experience design for complex software products.
  • Significant prior experience working as an accessibility professional.
  • Expert level grasp of accessibility and assistive technology software and platforms.
  • Expert understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.x).
  • Can leverage Fable's Accessible Usability Scale (AUS) to measure and communicate the quality of product and experience accessibility.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on collaborating, influencing, and coaching.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, HCI or similar field or Bachelor's in engineering or a UX Design related field or equivalent demonstrated experience and expertise.
  • Ability to travel 10%.
  • Strong understanding of core web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) and their interactions with assistive technology.
  • Experience planning, designing, facilitating, and synthesizing workshops.
  • Experience with driving and applying design thinking and user-centered design processes.
  • Experience creating and leveraging experience maps, articulating user journeys, wireframes, and personas/mindsets.
  • Experience in developing and conducting user research to uncover accessibility insights on which to root design and strategy.
  • Experience with prototyping methods, ranging from sketching to digital prototypes.
  • Excellent storytelling skill using visual explanations and other tools to communicate complex topics in a simple, easy to understand way.
