Account Director, Earned Media
Job Description

What is the work?
- Leads the development and implementation of earned media strategies in partnership with account leadership and support of account team.
- Exhibit strong media instincts with skillset to work across corporate affairs and consumer/brand work.
- Brings innovative and integrated thinking with a point of view to clients to maximize communications results.
- Strong project management and proven ability to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments. Identify, secure and employ resources needed to achieve results.
- Conducts media outreach with tailored pitch topics to secure media opportunities and facilitates through to publication.
- Manages the development of media materials to support strategy and secured opportunities (e.g. pitches, press releases, briefing books, messaging, etc.)
- Builds and maintains relationships with national business, consumer/lifestyle, broadcast, and industry media contacts.
- Follows the news and culture trends that impact clients, strategies, industries, and stakeholders; Advises teams and clients on relevant shifts and developments.
- Maintains understanding and derives insights and new opportunities from the evolving media landscape, new platforms, trends, mergers, and operational ways of working.
Experience that contributes to your success:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience, preferably at an agency and in the sustainability and retail industries
- Proactive self-starter, good judgement, flexibility/adaptability and comfortable working with a remote team
- Ability to influence and persuade multiple audiences.
- Strong understanding of how media works, a nose for news/media trends and a genuine interest in storytelling
- Demonstrated understanding of media relations tools - Cision, Muck Rack, HARO, etc.
- Proven ability to develop and implement earned media strategies with a track record of proven results
- Excellent verbal and written communication; writing, editing and proofreading media materials
- A deep understanding of client business and communications issues to serve as client facing team lead
