Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Account Engineer supporting our North America General Property business. The position reports directly to the VP Risk Control, General Property, North America however all Risk Engineers at BHSI are fully integrated with the Underwriting Team(s). Candidates should be located near either our Boston or Atlanta office.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Primarily support the General Property underwriting teams in both the U.S. and Canada
- Conduct desktop level account analyses for the purposes of informing our underwriting teams so that we can underwrite risks profitably
- Attend occasional site (insurance) surveys for the purposes of improving our knowledge of the risk
- Support other lines of business (Builder's Risk, Programs, Marine) as needed
- Supporting other regions (UK / Europe, Asia / Middle East, Australia) as needed
- Communicate effectively with other risk engineers, the Underwriting team, the Valuation team, and the Claims team
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with customers when discussing findings, recommendations or seeking clarification while participating at site surveys, or customer meetings, while being cognizant that we are representing BHSI in the marketplace
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 5 years (+) in field and/or account level property loss prevention engineering
- Previous site visit experience is a must, preferably with a variety of commercial and industrial occupancies
- Strong knowledge of industrial fire protection systems
- Familiarity with NFPA Standards and FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets
