Job Description

We are looking for an Accountant to join our Storefront & Finishing Solutions business. We create distinctive metal and glass solutions for commercial buildings and customers across the US and Canada. As part of a larger public company, you will have career opportunities and a chance to collaborate with colleagues both locally and across all of Apogee Enterprises.

As an accountant for a publicly traded company, you have basic knowledge of US GAAP, and the requirements of Sarbanes's Oxley (SOX). You are well organized, and you balance the needs of your stakeholders and the company's policies. You are good at collaborating with business process owners to ensure that the company's end-to-end processes and controls are working as intended.

As a successful accountant, you can act independently and as part of a team to follow the procedures to "close the books." You can gather, compile, and analyze financial information to prepare general ledger entries, answer basic accounting and reporting questions, and prepare monthly reports. You can understand the requirements for the transactions you process and record and know how to define and improve the processes you execute.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting processes for multiple locations

• Analyze and record business transactions for multiple locations
• Bill customers for shipments and apply cash received to customers' accounts
• Prepare and file sales tax returns
• Complete journal entries and other month end tasks - including reconciliations and month end reports
• Support SOX compliance/audit efforts in area(s) of responsibility

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
