POSITION SUMMARY

Tubelite Inc., a division of Apogee Enterprises, Inc (APOG, a public company), is looking for a staff accountant to join our Storefront and Finishing Solutions business unit located on the outskirts of Grand Rapids Michigan. We create distinctive metal and glass solutions for commercial buildings and customers across the US and Canada. As an experienced accountant for a publicly traded company, you have basic knowledge of US GAAP, and the requirements of Sarbanes's Oxley (SOX). You are well organized, and you balance the needs of your stakeholders and the Company's policies. You know how to use your accounting knowledge to get the company's transactions accurately recorded in the general ledger. You've seen (and done) what "good" looks like and you know how to find ways to improve your own processes and work.You are good at collaborating with business process owners to ensure that the Company's end-to-end processes and controls are working as intended.

As a successful experienced accountant for the Storefront and Finishing Solutions business, you can act independently and as part of a team to follow the procedures to "close the books." You can gather, compile, and analyze financial information to prepare general ledger entries, answer basic accounting and reporting questions, and prepare monthly reports. You know how to identify and communicate accounting and reporting risks in the company's operations and transactions, and give direction and coaching to junior staff. You can work independently through uncertainty and figure out the right answer, but you also know when to raise your hand and ask for help. You can understand the requirements for the transactions you process and record and know how to define and improve the processes you execute.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field highly preferred
• 2 years experience in accounting (general ledger, statutory, management) highly preferred
• Working knowledge of GAAP
• Experience in large ERP system (JDE and/or SAP) preferred
• Position also requires strong verbal and written communication skills
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook)

POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting processes for multiple locations

• Complete journal entries and other month end tasks - including reconciliations and month end reporting
• Analyze and record business transactions for multiple locations
• Bill customers for shipments and apply cash received to customers' accounts
• Monitor Balance Sheet accounts and variances in the income statement
• Prepare and file sales tax returns
• Support SOX compliance/audit efforts in area(s) of responsibility
• Ad Hoc reporting and other duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Apogee has a "hybrid" model for physical/remote work. The ability to travel for collaboration, or participation in process improvement and Company-wide events may be required, but will be infrequent.
