Accountant I

Overview

AmTrust Financial is seeking a staff accountant to perform a variety of general accounting, financial analysis, and reporting functions. This role will be responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger as well as assisting with the monthly financial close for the AmTrust Specialty Division of AmTrust. This role will be reporting to the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for balancing all AmTrust Specialty financial information to system control reports on a monthly basis.
• Utilize the above to perform quality control on all AmTrust Specialty Premiums, Commissions, Losses, and Expenses as booked by centralized systems into the AmTrust general ledger.
• Responsible for performing reconciliations on all related Income Statement & Balance Sheet accounts.
• Responsible for building and uploading journal entries to accounting system that fall outside of scope of centralized systems.
• Perform analyses on reinsurance calculations in order to ensure compliance with contract terms.
• The role will also provide certain financial information to management as well as to the company's internal and external auditors on monthly and quarterly basis.
• Assist corporate finance with statutory accounting on a quarterly basis.
• Special Projects as required.

Qualifications

• This person should have excellent PC skills, with a strong background in Excel.
• A quick learner with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• 1 - 3 years in general accounting
• Bachelors' degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
• Over-time required at peak periods.

The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $75,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, New Jersey. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
