Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for an Accountant II to join our Chief Accounting Officer's organization. This position is flexible and can report out of either Madison, WI or our Cedar Rapids, IA office. In this position you will perform routine and moderately complex non-routine accounting work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC); prepare financial and statistical reports including financial statements and related notes for regulatory agencies, management, and others.

Responsibilities
- Maintain guidelines, develops accounting schedules, analyzes account balances and analyzes and maintains accounting records in accordance with company procedures.
- Analyzes and reviews variances in financial results from budget and prior periods.
- Maintains the general ledger and prepares financial statements and related reports/analyses and other accounting related duties of the parent company, utility companies, SERVCO and non-regulated businesses.
- Analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard practices and procedures when preparing source input, parameter tables, and other details of the financial accounting system, financial reports and other accounting related reports.
- Interprets policy and uses judgment when making recommendations for accounting adjustments, procedural changes and compliance with company procedures and various federal, state, and local regulations in all areas.
- Responds to requests from regulatory bodies for accounting information and provides financial information to support regulatory and other audits.
- Researches and implements regulatory accounting requirements.
- Keeps fully advised of current developments in the accounting field, industry, regulations, and Company procedures as they apply to assigned work areas.
Required Experience
- 3 years of accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Understanding of accounting principles, theories, practices, and procedures of the utility industry.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience using common accounting software applications including PeopleSoft and Workiva.
- Advanced abilities using Microsoft Excel to manipulate and analyze data, VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, power BI.
