The Accounting Finance (A F) Internrole supports various areas of the Accounting Finance Department at Ameritas including investment accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and operations teams. The A F intern responsibilities include creating accounting journal entries, monthly reconciliations, participation in special projects, reporting, developing, and analyzing financial information and compiling presentations. This role has exposure to day-to-day accounting and finance responsibilities and project work to move the business forward. The ideal candidate is on a Finance and/or Accounting track.

This internship will begin May 2023 depending on the candidates availability.

What you do

  • Create monthly and quarterly accounting entries for routine transactions
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly reconciliations
  • Enhance quarterly financial analysis through detailed analysis of product line financial results and key metrics, and trends.
  • Prepare information for and attend management meetings to review results.
  • Utilize the financial database to for reporting and analysis
  • Assist in the creation of presentations for management.
  • Assist in the development of capital management analysis, calculation, and materials.
  • Ad hoc requests.
  • Assist in special projects.

What you bring

  • Working towards a 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance at a Sophomore or Junior status.
  • Able to commit to a full year of work - part-time during the academic school year and full-time during the summer
    • PT includes 10-20 hours a week
    • FT includes 30-40 hours a week

  • Consistently demonstrates initiative and a professional, self-directed approach to responsibilities and an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Accepts additional projects and responsibilities as assigned. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
  • Proven ability to work well and proactively communicate with all levels of management within the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Keen analytical skills and proven ability to develop effective financial analysis
  • Extremely strong PC and Excel skills
