Job Description

The Accounting Assistant Manager position is responsible for daily oversight of accounting operations including accounts payable, corporate cards, reimbursements and daily reconciliations and processing. This position also serves as a mentor to the team by providing leadership, training, coaching and recognition. The Accounting Assistant Manageralso leads meetings, suggests and implements department efficiencies, and provides support functions to the Accounting Manager and Payroll.

  • Serve as a leader and mentor to the accounting team by providing training, coaching and development opportunities to the accountants, creating standards of work and identifying process improvements to enhance team member knowledge and growth, eliminating errors and mitigating risk.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations for the accounting team by reviewing work completed by accountants and providing constructive feedback for corrections, improvements, and efficiencies. Ensure work completed in accounting has proper segregation of duties and adequate cross training for accurate, timely processing.
  • Act as primary back up coverage for the credit union payroll processing by becoming fully cross trained and familiar with our payroll operations. Maintain payroll knowledge by staying involved with the process and covering tasks regularly.

Other Essential Functions

  • Represent the Accounting department by providing timely, professional and friendly communication to all we encounter, including staff, members and vendors.
  • Support departmental initiatives and projects by contributing as an effective project team member and complete all tasks and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Continually cover, complete and cross train on all daily tasks assigned to all Accountants to ensure all daily tasks can be completed independently and accurately each day.
  • Proactively recommend and implement efficiencies within any task in the Accounting department.
  • Provide leadership to Accountants by training new employees, mentoring, assisting in problem solving, reviewing Accountants work for accuracy and providing constructive and timely feedback about job performance.
  • Assists leadership and payroll with support functions, suggest recommendations and communicate through presentations and/or reports.
  • Ensure proper accounting controls by completing daily processes timely and accurately.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.

Job Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in an accounting or finance position required, preferably in a financial institution or in a public accounting/auditing position. Minimum one year of successful supervisory experience and/or demonstrated leadership skills in directing, delegating, facilitating change, problem solving, coaching and/or counseling staff.

Software Skills: Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Equipment Skills: Proficient with 10-key calculator.

Other Skills: Strong interpersonal skills required with the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters. Ability to adapt to frequent changes and handle/prioritize tasks, competing demands, simultaneous projects etc. in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to clarify and articulate key message points as well as voice and defend opinions.

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 25 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
