Accounting Manager
Job Description
WestCoast Children’s Clinic, located in Oakland, California, is a non-profit community psychology clinic that provides mental health services to Bay Area children, youth and families. The Accounting Manager will delegate, supervise, participate in accounting department tasks, lead accounting staff members and increase department accuracy and efficiency. This position reports to the CFO and will regularly interface with all levels of the organization. The Accounting Manger will oversee the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information. In addition, this position will be responsible for hiring, training, and motivating accounting staff members. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing department controls and procedures to ensure that the department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting (External and Internal)
- Analyze financial data and create reports for management, stakeholders, and external parties, such as vendors or lenders.
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records and participate in audits or reconciliations, as needed.
- Manage all external financial requirements, including the annual financial and 403(b) audits and completion of 990 Tax Return.
- Prepare annual cost settlement reporting to the organization’s funding sources (Alameda and San Francisco).
Personnel Management
- Assist other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business.
- Manage, direct, and support development of accounting staff responsible for Medi-Cal billing, other service revenue, accounts receivable, payables and payroll.
- Responsible for professional development of all Accounting team members.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee the daily activities of the accounting department and ensure that all major projects, month-end, and year-end reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee all financial processes including cash management, invoicing, accounts receivable and payables, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of month-end and annual financial reporting packages for submission to key members of Management, the Board of Directors and the relevant Committees of the Board.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget and monitor actual results against forecast and budget throughout the year.
- Keep informed about the latest developments within the non-profit sector
- Ensure GAAP and OMB A-122 Circular compliance.
- Oversee the integrity and maintenance of the general ledger.
- Prepare the annual financial risk assessment and control analysis and ensure financial controls are in place to effectively mitigate risk.
- Maintain and update financial policies and procedures annually.
- Support the CFO in development of presentations for Finance Committee meetings.
- Implement financial goals as directed by the CFO and CEO.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field
- Previous accounting experience in a nonprofit setting strongly preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or MBA preferred
- 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- 2+ years in a supervisory or management position
Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle and accounting rules (GAAP/FASB).
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, including knowledge of OMB Circular A-122
- Knowledge of payroll, payroll tax requirements, and labor standards
- Strong understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and payroll systems.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills with experience in financial and variance analysis.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and stress management skills
- Ability to train and supervise staff
- Experience with computerized accounting ledger systems, preferably Abila MIP.
- Experience with ADP payroll systems.
- Experience with G-Suite Applications.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel worksheets, including advanced applications and tools.
- Ability to make complex decisions, and create the new and different
- Experience in managing diverse relationships, inspiring others, while being open and receptive.
- Exhibits managerial courage by making tough people calls, having energy and drive and being organizationally savvy while communicating effectively within all levels of the organization.
- Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail, strong time management skills and an ability to work within defined deadlines.

Position Details and Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Accounting Manager. Salary range $115,000-$130,000 per year depending on experience, and includes benefits, 403b, and performance-based compensation plans.
