Job Description
Your Team
Working alongside the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible to monitor and analyze all areas of development accounting including monthly financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, job costing, project budgeting, project basis and cost of sales reconciliations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company's policies and procedures. This role interacts with multiple departments and supports the business as necessary.
Your Key Deliverables
Reporting -45%
The Accounting Manager interacts with multiple departments and gathers information to ensure accurate reporting. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Detailed preparation/review/analysis of all transactions including purchases, land sales, basis allocations, fair market value analyses, forecasting and budgeting.
- Assigned project-level internal and external ad-hoc reporting deliverables on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis (municipality filings, MUD documentation, cash flow analysis, financing, compliance, etc.) ensuring all deliverables are accurate, timely and within company policy.
Process Management/ Systems -25%
The Accounting Manager, along side of the Director, will lead with the development and execution of the transition of systems and enhancements of additional systems on an ongoing basis.
- Entire system transition scheduled for next 48 months
- Enhancements to current systems regularly being improved and will require a "Champion" with design, communication and implementation.
Analysis - 10%
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for:
- Analysis of various documents including project underwriting models, and loan agreements
- Leases and operating agreements
All will be analyzed to ensure transactions are recorded properly for assigned development projects.
Audit- 5%
Assist with coordinating annual external audit of company financial statements, annual internal budgeting process and property tax listing.
Staff Management -5%
The Accounting Manager will have two direct reports with the possibility of more.
- Review of work from the Sr. accountant and AP clerk
- Regular interaction with direct reports as well as the department as a whole.
Builder Profitability Reports- 10%
- Prepare and submit all Builder Profitability Reports to Land Sellers
- Manage interactions with our guest builders where we have PAPA coming back to us.
- Coordinate and assist with audits of Builder Profitability Reports
Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- CPA a plus
- Experience with system conversion a plus
- 4-6 years accounting experience; preferably in homebuilding and/or land development
- Strong communication skills and team player mentality
- Strong organization skills
- Solid accounting fundamentals
- Extremely proficient in:
- Excel
- Inform XL and other data management tools
- Financial Statement presentations
- Budgeting
- Forecasting
