Accounting Manager

The Position

Arrowhead is seeking an Accounting Manager with demonstrated experience in technical accounting & SEC financial reporting to join its Finance & Accounting team at its Pasadena, CA headquarters. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager will work with a growing team of (4) individuals and manage all aspects of financial accounting, technical accounting, SOX compliance, internal/external audit & external reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of US GAAP, be very detail-oriented, responsive, tech-savvy, and resourceful, and demonstrate 5+ years of growing responsibility in an accounting role, preferably within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

Responsibilities

• Be an integral part of the accounting team supporting the monthly financial close processes, technical accounting, internal controls & financial systems
• Prepare various financial reports for monthly review meetings of key financial statements
• Support monthly and quarterly General Ledger close process by preparing, reviewing & approving journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
• Work collaboratively with FP&A and within the accounting team to enhance the monthly/quarterly close process
• Prepare consolidated external financial reports, including periodic reports filed with the SEC
• Understand technical accounting matters, and manage complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, stock compensation, impairment analysis, leases, joint venture accounting, and other critical accounting matters
• Be responsible for researching and implementing new developments in GAAP pronouncements that impact the business
• Review agreements and operational contracts to ensure proper accounting and reporting
• Lead SOX compliance initiatives & interactions with internal/external auditors; including periodic & annual audits
• Prepare materials and provide updates for audit committee/board of director’s meetings and earnings calls
• Manage accounting systems and associated databases, including ERP upgrades
• Gather, analyze & summarize financial data, resolve issues & manage multiple deadlines
• Ad-hoc/special projects as assigned

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA Designation is preferred
• 5+ years of financial accounting experience in a public company and/or Big 4 environment
• Experience in internal controls over financial reporting and accounting processes and Sarbanes-Oxley
• Demonstrated ability to adapt both initiatives and teams in a fast-paced environment, and to communicate technical accounting requirements and implications to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong organizational skills, with a focus on accuracy, detail orientation, and the ability to produce in tight timelines
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Possess the highest level of integrity
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
• Excellent team player
• Pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred
• The ability for occasional travel between Arrowhead’s locations
