General Summary

The Manager, Accounting will manage a team of project accountants who perform monthly activities to measure and monitor project financial performance for Advarra's Consulting organization. The successful candidate will ensure that team tasks and priorities are properly aligned to complete the financial month end close and prepare appropriate metrics and KPIs in accordance with company timelines. The Manager, Accounting will also be responsible to ensure financial transactions are processed timely and reviewed for both accuracy and completeness. The Manager, Accounting will report to Senior Director, Finance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and continuously develop a team of approximately 4-5 project accountants, addressing workflow, communicating priorities and the team's day-to-day challenges
• Coordinate and deliver the team's month-end closing tasks, including journal entries, account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly project level financials including project revenue, costs, margin analysis, backlog reporting and other financial analysis as needed
• Work with the team to identify and implement process improvement opportunities to help drive automation and better leverage the company's management information systems
• Develop or enhance business process procedure documentation to support standardized and consistent processes amongst the team to also be leverage for future training needs
• Support the year-end audit with preparation of schedules and audit requests as needed
• Maintain appropriate internal control safeguards
• Ensure accounting records are maintained, compiled and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and local, state and federal requirements
• Research and explain variances to budget, forecast and prior periods
• Assist with system implementation and enhancements as needed
• Monitor accounts receivable including aging, DSO and bad debts
• Monitor accounts payable including DPO and payment selections
• Assist with the budgeting/forecasting process as directed
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirement

Education

• Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA preferred

Experience

• Minimum of eight (8) years' of people management experience
• Minimum of six (6) of experience in project accounting
• Proficient user of NetSuite, OpenAir (or comparable project accounting software) experience a plus
• Must have intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Sit or stand for extended periods of time at stationary work station
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• This position requires regular oral/written interaction with clients, team members and management
• Infrequent traveling may be required within the United States
