Organization Overview

Founded in 2004, Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to California's most vulnerable individuals, with an emphasis on those transitioning from, or at risk of, homelessness or institutionalization. We are approaching 420 staff, operating throughout California with an annual budget approaching $400MM and $300MM in current assets. We develop, own and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care homes, and implement a broad array of scattered-site, one-on-one supportive housing, and clinical case management programs through partnerships with developmental services, homeless services, veterans' services and health care sectors.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is an integral part of our growing Finance team and will report to the Associate Director. This position will have primary responsibility for managing monthly close and supervising a team of up to 5 Senior Accountants. This position will have responsibility for all aspects of the accounting cycle and is the primary accounting liaison for multiple departments, co-managing monthly closings and supervising accounting staff. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, a problem-solver, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Location: California (prefer Los Angeles or San Francisco Area), position is primarily remote with occasional in-office requirements

Pay Range : 100,000-120,00 annually/exempt

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the accounting systems, policies and procedures
  • Manage month-end close cycle and supervise accounting staff
  • Compile, analyze and report accounting data for management reports and decision-making
  • Review monthly reimbursement invoices with high transaction volume
  • Analyze and monitor cash flow for several bank accounts and perform cash balance projections
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Field auditing, reporting and budgeting questions from our internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage and review audit assignments from our government agency and auditing firm
  • Assist and manage the process to develop program and organization budgets
  • Act as liaison with outside auditors and government agencies on contract issues
  • Manage and perform other various accounting activities as assigned

Requirements

Professional Experience

  • 7 to 10 years full cycle non-profit fund accounting experience
  • 2 to 3 years experience supervising accounting staff
  • 2 to 3 years of systems implementations, a plus
  • 2 to 3 years of full budget cycle, a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred, but not required
  • Computer knowledge, MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required, some Salesforce knowledge a plus
  • Experience and proficiency with Intacct, Mineral Tree and Adaptive Insights, a plus
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality with high degree of discretion and excellent judgment

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Ability to build and manage a team- recognize ability levels of staff, initiate and establish personal growth and career paths for staff, accurately monitor staff performance against objectives and provide feedback and recognition to staff
  • Ability to clearly articulate program goals and develop tools and metrics for staff to achieve those goals
  • Solid team leader who can work well collaboratively on projects and under pressure
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, inancial statements, balance sheet accounts, financial statement analysis and reconciliations
  • Understanding of all aspects of a payment transaction from payment acceptance, reconciliation, dispute resolution, and payouts
  • Understanding of all aspects of accounts receivable from creation of invoices, verifying and posting receipts, submission of invoices to customers, reconciliations and collections
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge, and skills to deliver culturally responsive services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations
  • Sensitivity to homeless people and the issues of homelessness and recovery, and ability to work with people from diverse educational and personal backgrounds
