The Role

Saildrone is growing and we are looking for a self-motivated dynamic individual to serve as an Accounting Manager, to join our Accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. 

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the monthly and quarterly close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Performing general ledger account reconciliations and ensuring that all account balances are properly supported and documented
• Managing the GL accountant and providing guidance on technical accounting issues
• Overseeing debt accounting, including the calculation of interest expense, amortization of debt issuance costs, and recording of principal payments
• Managing lease accounting, including reviewing and recording lease contracts and ensuring compliance with ASC 842; Managing debt warrants, including accounting for the fair value of warrants and updating valuation models
• Posting and reconciling payroll entries, including payroll taxes and benefits
• Ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures and assisting with the development of new policies and procedures as needed
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve processes and workflows
• Providing support to auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews
• Managing the company's use tax filings, including ensuring timely and accurate filing
• Performing month-over-month variance analyses for each close, and presenting findings to the Controller and other stakeholders
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date schedules for prepaids, and accruals
• Assisting with the implementation of new accounting systems and processes as needed
• Ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act and work with the Controller to ensure all controls are properly documented, tested, and remediated in a timely manner.
• Manage the Accounts Payable team
• Ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices and employee expenses
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the AP process.

Background

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
• CPA certification preferred
• Experience at Big 4
• Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory role
• Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of US GAAP
• Advanced Excel skills; proficient with NetSuite; Expensify experience a plus
• The ability to work independently and be self-managing is a must

Location: This position is in Alameda, CA. Our waterfront office offers beautiful views of San Francisco Bay in always sunny Alameda. Even our walls have good karma, our offices mix software development with a hardware production line in the former airplane hangar used to film 'The Matrix'.
