Position Title: Accounting Operations Manager

Reports To: Assistant Controller

Department: Accounting

FLSA Status: Exempt

Purpose: The Accounting Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the Company's General Ledger systems and structure to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting, with a specialized focus on deposits and deposit related products, fixed assets, prepaids and various accruals, including the preparation of related financial schedules and reports that support the Company's external financial reporting requirements. This role requires a great attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively.

Essential Functions:

  1. Using a thorough understanding of the flow of funds through the banking systems, manage the balancing processes relating to Federal Reserve accounts, Demand and Time Deposit core banking systems, Cash Sweep products, Company deposit accounts, Positive Pay reconciliations, Electronic banking products, ATM and Debit card products, and all related Items in Process accounts.
  2. Participate in testing and implementation of new electronic banking products, including setting up new processes, and identify and implement improvements to current processes, to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
  3. Manage the preparation of financial schedules to support the Company's compliance with SEC rules, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and financial services regulatory requirements, primarily relating to reporting of deposits and deposit related products. This will include evaluating the applicability of new accounting standards and regulatory reporting changes and making recommendations on and implementing new processes to ensure ongoing compliance with these requirements.
  4. Maintain the GL structure of the Company including maintenance of GL accounts, creating and setting up brand new GL accounts, adding new branches, cost centers, entities and verifying reporting codes to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  5. Oversee the Company's accounting and reporting for fixed assets, prepaids and various corporate accruals.
  6. Manage the completion of assigned month end close activities and prioritize staff assignments to meet timeframes established for month-end, quarter-end and annual closing of the Company's books and records.
  7. Manage the activities and functions of direct reports by establishing work plans and staff assignments, resolving difficult or complex problems, reviewing work performed, and evaluating employee performance. Ensure continuous staff development and appropriate cross training of staff to ensure adequate back-up of all functions.
  8. Maintain accounting records in all assigned areas in an organized manner to facilitate reviews and audits of the Company's financial records. Ensure written procedures reflect current processes.
  9. Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal and external customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example, and service in every facet of work.

Job Related Qualifications - Education and Prior Experience:

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Prior Experience: 5+ years of Accounting or related banking experience

Preferred:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Prior Experience: 5+ years of Accounting experience
  • Licenses or Accreditation: Certified Public Accountant

Competencies:

  1. Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) with the ability to learn and utilize new and existing banking and accounting software applications
  2. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
  3. Analytical ability to interpret data and present it in a meaningful and easily understood form while providing recommendations
  4. Ability to take initiative in problem solving and use sound judgment to produce practical solutions
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management
  6. Strong knowledge and understanding of Accounting concepts/standards (US GAAP)
