As an Accounts Payable Lead, you will be an integral part of the Accounts Payable team. In this challenging, fast-paced environment, you'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience to assist in a variety of assignments in order to support the design and creation of the most groundbreaking aerospace and defense technologies - those that exist today and those that will shape tomorrow. You bill responsible to ensure timeliness, completeness, and accuracy recording of Accounts Payable transactions in accordance with GAAP in a high-growth environment. You will be able to scale and make process improvements with a high volume of invoices, transactions and suppliers while maintaining compliance with internal controls. You will work cross-functionally and collaborate with key Finance business partners throughout the company, as well as with suppliers and vendors.
Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Primary Responsibilities
  • Initially, support the transition of the accounting activities, with a particular focus on Accounts Payable, from the parent Company, SNC, to a newly created accounting team
  • Once the in-house accounting function has been successfully implemented, perform more routine monthly accounting activities related to Accounts Payable
  • Be responsible for timely and complete processing of AP transactions and ensure accurate coding to General Ledger
  • Provide first level review of staff's work
  • Obtain supplier invoices, review and enter them into an Automated Accounting System
  • Obtain and reconcile vendor statements, following up on discrepancies
  • Reconciliation of freight invoices to shipping database
  • Maintain effective relationships with business partners/vendors through timely and accurate payment and response to inquiries
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and other departments to resolve 3-way match discrepancies
  • Prepare and review recurring payments, including check runs and wires
  • Audit of p-card transactions and vendor travel reimbursements
  • Supervise maintenance and filing of AP records in accordance with company guidelines
  • Identify and escalate priority issues timely to management
  • Assist with audit schedules for internal and external auditors as needed
  • Supervise preparation of annual 1099 and other AP compliance reporting requirements
  • Own the vendor on-boarding procedures and the required tax forms
  • Be responsible for supporting accurate and timely completion of AP month-end closing process, perform monthly AP related balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Provide support for special ad-hoc projects as directed

Must Haves:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Progressive Microsoft Excel data analysis experience including Pivot tables, macros, etc
  • Proficiency with Automated Accounting Systems, preferably Costpoint and/or SAP
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects
  • Consistently strives to improve processes and gain efficiencies, including participation in the testing of new accounting and other system functionalities
  • Analytical abilities, time management, organizational and communication skills are essential

Preferred:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or pursuing
  • Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting procedures
  • Deltek (Cost Point) and/or SAP accounting system experience
  • Working knowledge of FAR and CAS
  • Knowledge of Sales and Use Tax requirements
  • ERP implementation, user acceptance testing a plus
  • Able to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $32.25 - $44.35. Sierra Space considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
