Job Description

The Actuarial Analyst will support product development, pricing, and product management activities for index annuities, fixed annuities, and life insurance. Essential duties will include performing analysis, producing reports, and supporting system testing efforts. The Actuarial Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Inforce life insurance and annuity block, including Inforce illustrations, policy loan administration, and reinsurance administration. In addition, the Actuarial Analyst will work closely with other actuaries and analysts in one or more typical Actuarial functional areas, including risk management, modeling, and financial reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs system testing and quality control for new products, product enhancements, and system changes. Uses technical expertise and attention to detail to validate the accuracy of calculations within the illustration software, administration system, and print system.
  • Supports the product management for the Inforce life and annuity blocks. Responds in a timely manner to requests from the administration area, including but not limited to Inforce illustration requests and life insurance death benefit verification. Manages the tracking of policy loan activity and lapses.
  • Supports the development and design of profitable and competitive products. Supports the state filing process for new and existing products. Develops pricing models using the most current actuarial software and techniques.
  • Contributes to marketing efforts by assisting in the review of agent materials, consumer brochures and disclosures, and sales and education materials.
  • Collects and analyzes data for assigned project(s). Performs experience studies and presents findings.
  • Uses problem-solving skills to research and resolve issues.
  • Supports the Actuarial team and other departments on an as-needed basis.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize workflows, establish and meet deadlines and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of situations and respond to change in a positive manner.
  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to navigate multiple systems and programs including Microsoft Office, proprietary systems and other technology solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required, including a high degree of professionalism.
  • Carries out responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with EquiTrust's Core Values and focus on customer service; helps to create an environment of openness and trust for all employees and strives for continued professional skills development.

Training or Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with annuities and life insurance preferred.
  • Preference is given to actuarial students that have passed at least one Actuarial exam (through the Society of Actuaries).

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Actuarial Science, Math, Computer Science or Statistics

Working Conditions:

  • On-Site Location: West Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Business Travel: Infrequent travel (less than 5% of the time).
