Job Description Summary

As an Actuarial Data Director, you will provide leadership and integration of effective data governance practices for our Actuarial team. You will have the opportunity to establish positive relationships with other technology and data teams for success.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates and executes the P&C Actuarial Modernization data strategy.
  • Partners with Nationwide Technology and Data Management Systems leads to design, implement, and maintain data infrastructure, ensuring data can be used appropriately. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with enterprise data governance.
  • Builds and maintains data governance, including governance bodies, taxonomy, data quality and measurement, risk assessment, managing change and stewardship network.
  • Coordinates use of interim data framework using existing standards, ensuring that intermediate data related efforts translate well to the data infrastructure.
  • Maintains data glossary and data stewardship network and ensures continued usability of data.
  • Minimizes the risk of bad data and improves data accessibility, accuracy, validity, reliability, timeliness, relevance, completeness, and compliance.
  • Manages data policy compliance and governance. Knowledgeable with enterprise-level policy developments. Crafts communication plans.
  • Performs data risk assessment and, as appropriate, partners to develop recommendations to resolve the issues.
  • Establishes, maintains, and leads network of actuarial data stewards that possess solid grasp of the data and act on behalf of data owners to identify data issues, impacts and resolutions.
  • May lead a team of associates. Responsible for performance management, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP, Actuarial Data & Technology - P&C. Leads a team of 3-4 professionals.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, finance, accounting, information technology or other related area preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Data Management Association International (DAMA) - Data Governance and Stewardship Professional designation preferred. Information Quality Certified Professional (IQCP) credentialed by IAIDQ preferred. DGSP - Data Governance and Stewardship Professional preferred.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years of experience. Proven ability in data governance or data-centric roles, preferably within a finance or actuarial function in the insurance or financial services industry.

Experience in multiple analytically-intense, data-intensive or data-integration project(s) preferred. Proven expertise in bridging communication between technology partners and the business.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Deep knowledge of metrics applicable to data and associated analytical methods, company databases and their integration. Knowledge of finance terminology. Confirmed thought leadership and ability to develop skills in others. Demonstrable ability to perform data analysis. Expert with the use of ETL tools, knowledge of data governance practices, knowledge management and documentation. Ability to effectively adapt to evolving technology and apply it to business needs. Planning and leadership skills encompassing scope of work, time estimation and resource assignment. Must have ability to lead in effectively in an environment of ambiguity. Confirmed expertise in influencing others and leading change.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

The range for this role in Colorado is listed below. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.$103,000.00 - $149,000.00

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. The range for this role in New York is listed below. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.$103,000.00 - $197,000.00
