Actuarial Manager

The Actuarial Manager role manages actuarial work related to capital adequacy/financial strength, experience studies, actuarial modeling, asset liability management (ALM), valuation, retirement plan support, product development, pricing, non-guaranteed element determination or other business functions. Under minimal supervision, this job requires compliance with actuary practices and monitoring of changing regulations to ensure consistent compliance and delivery of optimal solutions to both internal and external clients.

The Experience Studies Manager and Actuary will manage assumption updates for use in our actuarial projection model, ad hoc experience studies requests and experience studies/assumption setting work related to corporate initiatives.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage and enhance experience studies, applying predictive analytics techniques when practical and beneficial.
  • Manage BAU experience studies and recommend assumptions.
  • Present recommendations to the Assumptions Review Committee
  • Interact with business partners (e.g., Annuity Center of Excellence, TIAA Enterprise Analytics, Product Management) to perform studies and share insights.
  • Manage ad hoc requests.
  • Perform internal and external peer reviews.
  • Liaise with Modeling Team to enhance connection between Modeling and Experience Studies
  • Provide assumption tables to Model Production
  • Review and interpret model runs for impact analysis.
  • Work with Model Development when new code is required due to assumption methodology changes.
  • Run monthly check-ins with Modeling.
  • Potentially perform work for Modeling Team, developing modeling skills
  • Manage collaboration with IT and others on corporate data/reporting project, data quality and maintenance, and submissions to auditors, regulators and the SOA.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • 5+ years actuarial experience required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years actuarial experience preferred
  • BA/BS in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or related field
  • Actuarial modeling software (such as MG-ALFA) and financial projections experience
  • Knowledge of insurance products
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Technical skills such as Excel and programming languages (R)
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
  • Experience managing projects and processes

Base Pay Range: $120,000/yr. - $186,300/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
