Actuarial Specialist

Job Description

BITCO Corporation, headquartered in Davenport, Iowa, is seeking an Actuarial Specialist to join our team. With 11 branch offices in 10 states, BITCO provides quality insurance services to special industries including Construction, Forest Products, and Energy. This position can be located at any BITCO office or any ORI or other SOC office location and is eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule.

Position Summary :

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a variety of actuarial work products and services that ultimately support key business drivers and goals. In addition, this role acts as the leader and coordinator of all actuarial services provided to BITCO.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Direct and supervise the work of the Actuarial Services department, including the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work and financial information reported
• Maintain and update current company and department procedures as needed. Assign work, provide training and feedback to team members, and conduct timely and appropriate evaluations of job performance in the department
• Serve as the leader and coordinator of all actuarial services provided to BITCO, including those provided by other strategic operating companies, ORI Corporate, or consultants engaged to support actuarial services
• Perform quarterly actuarial reserve reviews to support Claims, Finance, and Underwriting
• Complete actuarial pricing and rate reviews/indications
• Develop and maintain pricing tools for experience and exposure rating models
• Complete financial projections and forecasts as needed to support BITCO and ORI
• Utilize statistical models and forecasting techniques to provide appropriate data and information to key stakeholders
• Prepare various reports, complete internal trend studies, compile data, as well as any additional ad-hoc analysis requests or projects
• Create and maintain IBRN allocation algorithms and on-demand business segment financial performance studies
• Effectively communicate and coordinate with all levels of external and internal stakeholders
• As a management representative, consistently acts in the best interest of BITCO and provides leadership and communication to actively promote BITCO's mission, values, and culture
• All other functions and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of actuarial work experience within the property and casualty insurance industry, including at least 2 years of experience of full-cycle actuarial reserve reviews
• Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) participation is strongly desired, with at least 3 exams successfully passed (including having already attempted or intention to sit for CAS exam 5) and commitment to achieving ACAS designation.
• Financial support towards completing and maintaining the ACAS designation may be available
• Demonstrated ability to move from technically correct answers to business-friendly solutions
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate business and technical information clearly to both non-technical and technical audiences
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with all levels of an organization
• Above average math skills and aptitude for probabilistic thinking
• Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities
• Proven ability to stay organized and meet deadlines; consistent level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel and Access); VBA, R, and SQL programming skills are desirable
• Position requires some travel and overnight stays

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
