JOB DESCRIPTION:
Technical expert of building, monitoring, and maintaining models for Commercial Pricing organization.This individual will work with line of business actuarial teams to influence pricing strategies for numerous business units.This technical expert will drive efforts to solve complex issues for Commercial pricing organization.
Responsibilities include the following:
  • Modeling technical and manual premium across Workers Compensation, Property, General Liability, Products liability, Umbrella, Commercial Auto,and Business Owners policies
  • Collaborate with Line of Business actuarial teams on evaluating rating plan impacts, helping ensure successful implementation, and establishing regular maintenance of the models
  • Interact closely with business partners to explain technical pricing indications and help support tactical execution of business decisions
  • Other Projects (e.g. Trend Analyses, Portfolio reviews)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial, economic and statistical practices, procedures and principles.
  • Develops and maintains pricing models for various product lines
  • Builds complex models to forecast and analyze prospective losses under various conditions and their impacts on pricing specific lines of business
  • Interprets model results in business terms and communicates model contents to business decision makers. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends and developments in functional area of expertise. Assures knowledge transfer within the organization.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages all available resources to make informed decisions and achieve superior results.
  • Facilitates communication and provides technical guidance to underwriting regarding the pricing of new and existing business.Works with other areas (e.g., claims, finance) on actuarial issues.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial principles, economic and statistical practices, procedures, and principles as they relate to the organization and functional area
  • Adept at manipulating big datasets across multiple complex relational databases, including processing of third party data sources for analytics and modeling purposes
  • Proficient in R programming, statistical and machine learning techniques, as well as Microsoft Office Suite. Cloud based technology a plus (e.g. GCP, AWS or MS Azure).
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issue
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, leads through change and takes appropriate levels of risk.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to balance multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities, and ability to work both independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority based on data analyses and reviews.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgement and assume responsibility for decisions which have an impact on people and quality of service.
  • Ability to solve issues with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages available resources to make informed decisions and achieve superior results.
  • Insurance and modeling experience is required and successful candidates should have strong analytical and technical skills with a desire to innovate and learn new tools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Prefer ACAS/FCAS but not required.
  • Typically five to seven years of related work experience.
  • Hands on R and Python experience.

For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is
$97,500.00 - $163,000.00
The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
