The Team

As an Actuary on the Pricing team, you will be working under the risk function with talented team members in modeling, risk analytics, decision engine, insurance and tech product. The Pricing team has helped At-Bay secure reinsurance capacity, quantify and manage risk related KPIs and adjust pricing to drive profitable growth. You’ll join a growing team of four actuaries and actuarial analysts of diverse backgrounds and report to our Senior Actuarial Pricing Manager (Eric Murphy). 

You’ll be surrounded by a team that loves what they do and recognizes the enormous responsibility that they have – to support key business decisions with data backed insights and a deep understanding of insurance risk. 

Role overview

You’ll work directly contributes to At-Bay’s risk assessment framework that helps with data-driven decisions involving millions of dollars of exposure. This is a multidisciplinary role that includes developing deep cyber and tech knowledge, business acumen, research, and analytical skills. This is also a hands-on operational role where you’ll see in house submission, quotes and binds and understand how each risk decision will impact on the business.

You will be responsible for supporting At-Bay’s reinsurance related initiatives across multiple products and lead projects to understand the impacts and implications of pricing and underwriting initiatives on the business. You’ll work with internal business partners and external party reinsurance brokers to gain alignment on At-Bay’s future profitability. You’ll collaborate with our Cyber Research and CAT Modeling teams to develop tools necessary to assess tail risk, understand the impact of reinsurance on profitability and capital, and forecast the impacts of historical pricing and underwriting changes on our future book of business.

How you’ll make an impact

By 3 months:

• You’ll understand At-Bay’s internal data structure and develop key relationships across the business
• You’ll generate analysis and data needed to support At-Bay’s reinsurance submission
• You’ll design a process for accurately and dynamically forecasting loss, premium and exposure into the future to assess capacity needs
• You’ll identify areas of improvement in our systems and processes 

By 6 months:

• You’ll have facilitated captive, carrier, and reinsurance needs to illustrate the growth and profitability the At-Bay program in a reinsurance submission
• You’ll have created a dynamic forecasting tool to estimate the long term implications of current and proposed rate and underwriting changes on the book of business
• Facilitate the risk review process and contribute to the At-bay’s risk committee meetings to support the pricing & underwriting strategy.
• You’ll help coach individuals and managers to understand actuarial analytics, reinsurance pricing and risk, and how it differs from traditional pricing
• You’ll set up a framework for strategically assessing various reinsurance structures

What you’ve already accomplished

• • You’ve evaluated the profitability of a portfolio of insureds using actuarial techniques and communicated the results to leadership
  • You’ve lead pricing projects from end to end, collaborating and communicating cross functionally to ensure success
  • You’ve achieved your ACAS, FCAS, or other equivalent designation
  • You’ve worked with captives and/or reinsurers 
  • You’ve generated and interpreted loss distributions in the context of reinsurance pricing for different products and evaluated the implications of different reinsurance strategies on the business 
  • You’ve achieved proficiency with Excel and SQL, and have experience with Python and/or R
