The Advisor (Senior Scientist) modernizes and improves the analytical control strategy of protein drug substances. This includes the application of mass spectrometry to improve the current business and support the commercialization of new molecules.
The position is within in the Analytical Sciences organization. The position will be made available beginning Jan 2, 2023 and will provide technical and scientific support within a dynamic manufacturing environment for development of commercial processes (synthesis and purification) for biomolecules including proteins, peptides, and oligonucleotides. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to advance process knowledge, process optimization and production technical transfer, as needed. Scientists actively contribute to the Analytical Sciences organization, and have extensive opportunities for involvement in cross-functional teams. This position allows for development of a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory requirements, and the essential role scientists play in creating solutions for Eli Lilly and Company.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert for molecule developability, assessment, and physical characterization.
- Identify and support the implementation of new technologies/methods that offer significant advantages in cost reduction or process control. This includes expanding the use of mass spectrometry in a highly regulated environment.
- Responsible for the development, qualification, validation, and transfer of analytical methods.
- Streamline analytical strategies to reduce the overall testing burden in terms of cost and/or time.
- Develop methods to meet unmet control strategy needs.
- Ensure the analytical control strategy from raw materials through drug substance is technically sound, cost effective, compliant, and sustainable.
- Troubleshoot and investigate major analytical issues.
- Align regulatory strategies that require analytical testing with the goal of streamlining and modernizing the analytical control strategy.
- Strong technical writing and documentation of all work in an appropriate manner.
- Mentor lab associates to enhance their technical capabilities.
- Participate in technology transfer as needed.
Basic Requirements:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemistry or other similar scientific area with 0-2+ years of relevant post-graduate experiences. Industry experience is a plus. Masters degree with 5+ years of experience or Bachelors degree with 10+ years of experience will also be considered.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Previous experience working with LC-MS method development, optimization, validation, and execution in GMP analytical testing laboratories
- Experience developing protein/polypeptide analytical chromatography separations
- Practical experience with LC-MS, MS/MS, and HRMS instrumentation
- Strong scientific communication skills
- Demonstrated record of scientific achievement
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively
- Masters or Doctorate in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Industry related experience in pharmaceuticals is preferred
- Strong statistical skills
- Familiarity with GC/MS
