After School Meal Assistant

The After School Program invests in the identity, resilience, and agency of East End youth. We connect Kβ8th students with a network of trusted adults, local professionals, and peers for recreation, spiritual development, homework help, and skill building.
After School Meal Assistant is a paraprofessional position that is part of the After School Program. The incumbent will elevate daily dinner service to After School students by plating and serving already-prepared meals with an attention to detail and a friendly disposition. This role serves as the liaison between the After School Program and our meal provider, and includes adhering to relevant food handling guidelines as well as daily and monthly record-keeping. The After School Meal Assistant reports to the After School Director and supervises no staff.Β
Essential Duties
- Receives daily delivery of prepared food
- Portions and plates delivered food according to established guidelines
- Coordinates food service to students in a friendly and timely manner
- Completes and submits daily and monthly records
- Maintains clean working environment and food surfaces
- Discards trash bags into cans or dumpster
- Works with Director to maintains supply inventory and alerts to upcoming needs to avoid disruption

Required Qualifications
- Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostlesβ Creed and lived out in a faith community
- Embodies the vision and values of the After School Program
- High school or equivalent
- Friendly disposition in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility to manage multiple details, adapt to change, and deliver on time
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous professional food handling experience
- Previous professional record-keeping experience
Position Overview & Compensation
- Part-time, 8-10 hrs/week
- Exempt from overtime
- $12-$15/hour
- Primary work location: is the After School Program Site:
- 2010 Carlisle Avenue | Richmond, VA 23231
- Work Schedule:
- Mondays through Thursdays, 3:30-5:30
- During the school year, school holidays and breaks off
- Additional 2 hours/week at incumbents discretion
Special Conditions
- VA State Police Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
- VA Department of Social Services Child Registry Search (Abuse/Neglect of children)
- Mandatory training
- Work permit (if 14-15 years old)
- Mask-wearing when required
- Flexibility to work remotely occasionally is possible
- Frequent standing and use of hands and arms
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
- Frequent bending and twisting from the waist
