AGILE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Job Description
Are you an experienced software developer with strong leadership skills looking for an exciting opportunity? EBSCO Information Services (EIS) has an immediate opening for an Agile Development Manager. This role is primarily focused on the leadership and development of people and engineering practices that enable self-directed teams to successfully deliver and meet their goals within an agile organization in support of corporate vision and strategy.
The Agile Development Manager will lead a team of developers focused on building and enhancing components for a new platform that external and internal administrators can easily access and manage customer choices for configuration of their products, data, and end-user experience. This platform allows internal customers to establish configuration settings for their desired experience enabling them to own their configuration space while removing obstacles and bottlenecks associated to legacy administrative processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- As a servant leader, provide direct line management for a team of 5-6 engineers, with a focus on team member development, team culture, quality, and operations.
- Work directly with the scrum master, product owner and business representatives to provide scalable solutions from inception to operation.
- Work directly with other teams and architects to design and maintain software solutions within the Configuration Management ART.
- Implement and maintain measurements to monitor and sustain product quality.
- Own the tracking of current cloud infrastructure costs, forecast cost increases, and drive cost savings efforts.
- Stay abreast of industry and technology trends relevant to software engineering and our products.
- Hold regular team meetings to analyze operation metrics to understand how their components are operating in all environments.
- Review the performance of individual team members and provide written evaluation and effective coaching for improvement.
- Foster a quality mindset, teaching and providing learning on test automation and test-driven development.
- Reinforce code health and coding standards, teaching skills needed for high-quality code development.
- Promote security best practices.
- Encourage collective ownership and pair work.
- Foster a growth mind-set in all employees; enable software craftsmanship and innovation.
- Advocate for the teams and promote their successes, celebrate their failures, and share key learning throughout the organization.
- Lead accountability, autonomy, empowerment and manage the appropriate boundaries to achieve the result of having self-directed work teams.
- Attract, recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent.
- Live the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and SAFe framework in all interactions and equip the team to do the same.
Role-Based Competencies:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience providing leadership in software development team initiatives with a high degree of familiarity with Agile/SAFe software development framework.
- Outstanding logical/structured analytical ability to effectively understand and decompose product requirements into detailed stories and specifications.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible, strong collaboration skills, ability to prioritize and re-prioritize quickly.
- Strong sense of ownership and desire to solve complex technical challenges.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related experience
- 10+ years' experience in software development
- 3+ years' experience in agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe)
- Above average written and verbal communication skills
- Experience fostering an innovative environment for growing self-governed teams.
- Positive experience with conflict resolution, change management and mentoring/coaching.
- Ability to quickly understand and assess technical aspects of our products and components.
- Ability to advise on best practices (architecture, implementation, team dynamics, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience as a team lead or manager in an agile SW development environment
- 3+ years of Java programming experience
- Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure services and/or AWS certification
- Experience with CI/CD/CO tools and technologies such as Git, Jenkins, Docker, CloudFormation, Swagger, Postman, SonarQube, SumoLogic, NodeJS, ReactJS, OpenAPI.
- Solid knowledge of security best practices.
- Excellent understanding of DevOps culture with heavy automation focus.
- Knowledge and experience with microservices architectures
- Experience working with distributed teams across several time zones.
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Automated Unit Testing
- Capable of contributing technically when necessary
