Summary
Headquartered in sunny Los Angeles, GrayMatter Robotics is an AI robotics company that empowers people with smart robot assistants designed for tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks. We bundle our AI software with off-the-shelf robots, sensors, and tools to create application-specific turnkey solutions for customers through a Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) format.
We are developing brains for robots to transform them into smart assistants for helping humans in tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks. The robot brain comprises machine learning, motion planning, computer vision, and control algorithms. We use the robot brain to power application-specific software for automating surface treatment applications such as sanding, polishing, buffing, and spraying. You will be part of an energetic and cross-functional team dedicated to developing robotic solutions for complex and challenging problems for existing and new markets. You will be working with a dedicated team of professionals in a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative environment.
Role & Responsibilities
The AI Robotics Software Development Intern will work closely with a team of robotics, software, and mechanical engineers to develop and implement algorithms and architecture for production software by working with physical robots, sensors, and tools. The role will focus on the fundamentals of planning, learning, perception, and control to solve practical problems.

Role & Responsibilities
The AI Robotics Software Development Intern will work closely with a team of robotics, software, and mechanical engineers to develop and implement algorithms and architecture for production software by working with physical robots, sensors, and tools. The role will focus on the fundamentals of planning, learning, perception, and control to solve practical problems.
- Develop and implement algorithms, systems, and architecture for high-DOF robotic systems working in a constrained environment
- Develop high-performance production-ready software packages and systems by enabling GPU programming and other hardware acceleration methods
- Test and evaluate current state-of-art algorithms and techniques of planning, learning, perception, and control
- Other duties and project
Minimum Quals
- Currently in the process of pursuing a BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Expertise in 3D CAD design and load analysis
- Experience in iterative design and prototyping of cyber-physical and mechatronic systems
- Exposure to manufacturing processes and industries
Preferred Quals
- Industry work experience
- Experience in manufacturing process optimization
- Experience in developing standard operating procedures and documentation
- Programming skill in C++ / python
- Experience with Linux environment
- Background in kinematics / dynamics / control systems / motion planning / optimization / machine learning / robotics / computer vision / artificial intelligence / computational geometry
- Experience with ROS
