Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with global customers, clinicians and GE personnel to define and document algorithm development needs.
  • Design, implement, test and document algorithms for Diagnostic Cardiology products based on customer and clinical needs.
  • Clinically validate algorithms meet intended use and performance requirements using disciplined scientific and statistical methods with clinically relevant data.
  • Contribute to the risk analysis of algorithm implementations in terms of the impact on patient safety.
  • Participate in intellectual property reviews for algorithm development.
  • Attend scientific meetings, and customer/luminary meetings as necessary to obtain input for new algorithm development.
  • Publish papers and make scientific presentations to promote Diagnostic Cardiology algorithm technology.
  • Provide support related to ECG analysis to clinical application specialists.
  • Software development using C/C++ and other structured languages.
  • Contribute to and own deliverables of the Software Development Life Cycle including Software Requirements, Software Design, Implementation, Unit Testing, and Verification for algorithms.
  • Interaction with global team members to share knowledge and expertise with global counterparts.
  • Understand and follow GE Health Care Quality Management System and Design Controls throughout the product development cycle.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science, Data Science, or Biomedical Engineering or related Bachelor's of Science degree with emphasis on signal processing.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or other equivalent language and 1+ years of structured programming experience.
  • Demonstrated application of signal processing theory and techniques to biological signals.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply machine learning, scientific and statistical methods on patient datasets from ECG studies for algorithm development.
  • Demonstrated ability to write technical requirements and understand complex signal processing systems.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master's of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering or related.
  • Programming in a real-time or cloud computing environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cardiology workflow and use of diagnostic ECG testing.
  • Experience with computerized analysis of physiologic signals.
  • Knowledge of electrocardiography and cardiac physiology.
  • Knowledge of biostatistics.
  • Experience in computational modeling (machine learning).
  • Knowledge of numerical methods.
  • Experience in other programming languages such as C#, Python and Java.
  • Experience with MATLAB.
  • Experience with automated unit testing and automated system level testing.
  • Configuration management tool experience such as GitLab, TFS, Perforce, or equivalent.
  • Global team experience.
  • Experience with software development in the medical field.
  • Knowledge of GE Healthcare processes and engineering tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
