Job Description
ISD is looking to recruit a new digital research analyst to work within a team researching online disinformation, hate and extremism in France – particularly related to the upcoming French elections.
This role is situated in a new project team within the Europe and Five Eyes (EFE) team that is a result of new funding to expand ISD’s research in France. Building upon ISD’s well-established research into hate and extremism in France, this project team will monitor and analyse hate and disinformation related to the upcoming French elections across numerous social media platforms.
The Analyst will conduct quantitative and qualitative digital research, including data analysis and open source intelligence on issues of disinformation, extremism or political communications online. The Analyst will support the research team in detecting and analysing online disinformation and extremism online before, during and in the wake of the French elections in 2022, and will produce research outputs relating to these topics. This role will have a specific focus on extremism and disinformation in the French context, but will work with teams studying similar issues across Europe, the UK and the US.
The post holder will work either from France or remotely, with regular engagement with the team based in the ISD London headquarters as well as international teams in the US and Germany.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilise online analytics tools in order to identify disinformation / information operations, as well as hate speech / hate groups
- Conduct digital ethnography and qualitative analysis
- Author and co-author written outputs from research findings

Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have specialist qualifications and knowledge in online communications, disinformation, extremism, hate groups or related topics, as well as a good working knowledge of the key issues and debates around digital policy. All applicants must have a good knowledge of French politics, as well as native-level French language skills and professional-level English language skills.
