The Catalist Analytics department supports data-driven progressive organizations that boost civic participation and run successful electoral programs. We develop new statistical methods for solving unique problems associated with systematic missing data, latent variable detection, supervised modeling, and unsupervised modeling.

As a critical part of the Analytics team, Analysts support client data requests, assist with internal research and development projects, aid in data management for the team, and help translate analytics materials to clients in an accessible and intuitive manner. Analysts are provided with opportunities for mentorship from senior analytics and technical staff both inside Catalist and through our partnerships across the community and academia.

This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Deputy Director of Analytics, and works closely with members of the Client Services and Tech teams.

The salary range for this position will be $65,000 - $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

This position is included in our CWA bargaining unit.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Expertly leverage Catalist data resources, including voter files, micro-targeting models, and synthetic tools in addressing client questions and needs
  • Support internal research and development projects through thoughtful analysis and clearly communicated findings
  • Assist with maintenance and development of internal Analytics data architecture
  • Provide quality control to ensure Analytics deliverables are conveyed accurately and precisely
  • Other duties as needed

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of political targeting, analytics, and/or data experience
  • Familiarity with Catalist data, progressive political needs, voter files, and/or commercial databases
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: mapping/GIS software, commercial databases, reporting and program evaluation, development and applications of microtargeting models, controlled experiments, polling and survey research, digital media, data visualization
  • Working knowledge of SQL and R or Python
  • Highly motivated, curious, and collaborative
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated capacity to thrive in evolving environments
  • Successful track record of communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Background check required

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in political science, social science, behavioral science, economics, statistics, or related field
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with BigQuery, Airflow, and version control tools such as Git

The 401(k) Safe Harbor Plan is available to all full-time employees from date of hire. Employees may contribute pre-tax or post-tax from their salary up the legal limit set forth by the IRS.

  • Employer Contribution: All participants are eligible for this contribution.
  • Catalist, LLC will contribute up to 3% of your compensation into the plan for each eligible participant.
  • Catalist, LLC 401(k) plan allows qualified employees to enroll on their first day of work.

Personal Leave & Vacation

Catalist offers vacation benefits to all full-time, permanent staff. Employees receive 12 days their first full year. In addition to vacation, after 6 months each employee is allowed three personal days per calendar year and up to six days sick leave depending on tenure.
