Job Description

The Role

We are looking for an ambitious and talented Underwriting and Scheme Risk Analyst to join our growing team and support our global e-commerce portfolio. The candidate will be working in a dual role capacity which will involve merchant onboarding (as part of underwriting team) as well as working as part of the team in a card scheme compliance function.

This is a dual team focused role with approx 60% Underwriting and 40% relating to Scheme Compliance (exact split could change). In the Underwriting role, the candidate will be conducting business model analysis in line with existing guidance. Perform basic financial analysis, asks relevant questions to the customers followed by underwriting of recommendations in line with existing frameworks and as per assigned approval authority. Escalate up the line cases outside their approval authority. 

As part of scheme compliance responsibilities, the person will be expected to use various internal/external tools to conduct reliable and detailed merchant research, investigate merchants for potential scheme violations and propose appropriate actions to resolve issues to non-compliance. The candidate will need to understand various payment scheme rules and related updates, assist in draft internal guidance as needed and propose solutions to improve internal policy and processes.

The candidate will need to work very closely with multiple stakeholders including Risk, Commercial, Legal, Product, etc, and will review the merchant setups, scheme rules implications and propose on the required action.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive and confident individual, with an attention to detail, and have strong interpersonal, organisational, and technical skills and one who can demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgement in a fast-paced environment.

How you’ll make an impact

• Ensure efficient analysis and underwriting of assigned cases within SLA.

• Approved boarding of cases within the existing framework with core risk mitigants.

• Generate a detailed investigation report, highlighting various risks, its impact & proposed next steps.

• Perform proactive in-depth investigation of various suspected merchants using multiple data sources and available tools.

• Perform periodic review (financial analysis and to identify the non compliant cases within the card scheme rules).

• Timely follow ups on pending cases and perform investigations on new and ongoing cases.

Qualifications

About You

• Ability to interpret and analyse financial statements. 

• Bachelor degree in Finance, Economic or Business Studies with a good grade.

• Basic understanding of the payments industry and willingness to learn various complex payment terminology.

• 1-3 years of experience in the payments industry would be an advantage. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Making sound recommendations of cases with the ability to present it in a succinct manner.

• Passionate about the industry.
