Analyst - Private Equity

Nokia Investment Management Corporation ("NIMCO"), a subsidiary of Nokia, employs a 25-member staff with strong backgrounds in investments, financial management, and pension fund administration. NIMCO is responsible for the general supervision of the pension plans, the 401(k) plans and certain other benefit assets of Nokia. NIMCO maintains offices in Boston, Massachusetts and in Murray Hill, New Jersey.

General Summary:

This position, located in Boston, provides an opportunity for an individual with the appropriate qualifications to join the NIMCO Private Equity team which oversees the private equity portfolio in the U.S. Pension Plans.

The candidate is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the policies, procedures and programs related to NIMCO's global private equity portfolio. The candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Private Equity and Director, Investments and will work closely with members of the private equity team to develop the investment guidelines and strategy necessary to achieve the private equity portfolio's policy objectives.

The candidate will primarily be responsible for assisting in investment due diligence for new and existing relationships, helping manage the internal private equity systems and databases and assisting in portfolio monitoring.

In addition to working with the private equity team, the candidate will interact with NIMCO's Chief Investment Officer and other members of the NIMCO team. This individual will work closely with NIMCO's investment operations and compliance staff and the Pension's trustee/custody bank to ensure proper performance measurement and compliance with procedures and policies. The candidate will regularly interface with NIMCO's private equity investment managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the private equity team to achieve long-term performance targets for the private equity program within acceptable risk parameters.
  • Support the private equity team in data gathering and analysis as it relates to performance, asset allocation, risk management, and other NIMCO projects.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance within investment guidelines, coordinating manager meetings and managing investment reporting and documentation.
  • Assist in due diligence and selection of investment managers, preparation of investment recommendations and help develop and implement investment strategies.
  • Work as part of a team to implement best operational practices and a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement performance and compliance reporting for the private equity portfolio.
  • Develop and present key takeaways on a quarterly basis to senior-level management.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or closely-related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of investment related work experience.
  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Evidence of ability to think creatively.
  • Strong work ethic and a high degree of energy.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to attend annual meetings and due diligence meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation or progress towards.
  • Private equity investment related experience.

Critical Competencies:

  • Outstanding analytical skills; able to support and refute investment ideas with rigorous and insightful analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple ongoing responsibilities and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships demonstrating integrity and a high degree of ethics.
  • Support the continuing refinement and enhancement of analytical tools for performance and risk reporting.
  • Good financial modeling skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
