Cigna, along with its wholly owned subsidiary Evernorth, is hiring a class of 2023 summer interns for its Analytics Leadership Development Program (ALDP). We're looking for candidates who have a background in advanced analytics and data science, a desire for leadership, and a passion for solving healthcare's biggest challenges through the use of data. The ALDP is a new program we're building to develop future analytics and data science leaders for Cigna and Evernorth. We believe data and analytics are the key to solving the biggest problems in health care, and we're committed to hiring and training the next generation of leaders who will combine their advanced technical skills with business acumen, communication, and leadership to tackle those huge societal challenges.

What You'll Do

Cigna's Analytics Leadership Development Program is designed to further develop your advanced analytics and data science skills The ALDP internship offers:
  • Real work: Over the course of your internship, you'll be assigned a real business problem to solve that challenges your analytical and technical skills while helping you build industry knowledge. Your work will also allow you to make direct contributions to our mission and company goals.

Example projects include:
  • Build a predictive model to identify high-need customers for one of Cigna's clinical programs
  • Use machine learning techniques to create population clusters that allow us to communicate with customers in personalized ways
  • Analyze drivers of Cigna's medical spend using statistical techniques and recommend actions we could take to mitigate cost increases
  • Measure the impact of a business initiative on Cigna's customers and clients via a matched case-control study
  • Model the cost impact of changes in provider contracts on Cigna's medical spend
  • Community: Build relationships with cross-functional partners, peers, and other analytics and data science experts across the company
  • Leader Speaker Series: You and your fellow peers will be exposed to a variety of sessions and presentations given by members of the Cigna and Evernorth community.

Qualifications
  • Working towards a Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, business analytics, mathematics, or related
  • Demonstrated coursework / real world application of analytical methods: writing code (e.g Python, R, SAS, etc.), developing models (e.g. regression, decision tree, or other machine learning techniques), and/or evaluating outcomes using statistical techniques (e.g. matched case-control studies, A/B testing, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, across a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong motivation to apply quantitative reasoning to real-world business challenges
  • Strong motivation for leadership (e.g. demonstrated through extracurricular work)
  • 3.2+ GPA strongly preferred

Additional Information
  • Location: This role is flex, which allows some work to be performed at home, but will have an expectation for certain days in the office. Applicants should be prepared to be aligned to the Philadelphia, PA office.
  • Housing: Summer housing is available for interns who live more than 25 miles from the Philadelphia, PA office.
  • Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 10 weeks beginning May 22, 2023. Working hours are Monday - Friday

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
