Analytics Principal Data Engineer
Job Description
The Principal Analytics Data Engineer is a key technical leadership role, partnering on both overall strategic and technical direction for the team. They will participate as a senior technical contributor and a recognized expert in applying data engineering methods to support descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models. The Principal will provide innovative, pragmatic solutions using data pipelines and data provisioning to drive actionable insight to business problems. Additionally, they will partner with managers to lead, guide, mentor, and help develop the technical skills of the team. In order to provide both technical and strategic direction, the Principal will monitor industry trends and advocate for the adoption of appropriate technologies when aligned with the broader CDPHP initiatives. The Analytics Principal Data Engineer will work closely with the rest of the Analytics team, IT, and internal business partners to identify, evaluate, design, and implement data and analytic solutions to address short term and long-term stakeholder goals. They will translate the technical needs of the data engineering and IT teams to upper management to ensure the team and ecosystem with which it works evolves appropriately with the rapidly changing data science technology space. The candidate will be expected to lead by example and use sound scientific methodology, practice, and judgement when working through a data provisioning and integration problem.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's or PhD in one of the Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, or a similar computational/quantitative field preferred, STEM majors preferred.
- Minimum ten (10) years of applied data engineering experience with strong preference in the healthcare industry required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience required in technical/strategic leadership required.
- Demonstrated expertise with SQL, Pyspark, and traditional and modern ETL principles required.
- Experience with Unix/Linux OS and can write simple to moderate shell scripts using Bash required.
- Expertise in two or more of the following languages: Python, Scala, Java required.
- Experience working with Tableau, Qlik, Spotfire, Shiny or similar reporting/data visualization tool required.
- Experience leveraging distributed analytics frameworks like Apache Spark required.
- Experience working with Amazon's AWS big data services like EMR, Redshift, and Redshift Spectrum required.
- Experience working with source code versioning tool, preferably git required.
- Experience deploying data science workflows to production required.
- Familiarity with agile development required.
- Experience with SAS preferred.
- Experience with healthcare data/claims is preferred.
- Strong skills in MS Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required.
- Demonstrated expertise ingesting, synthesizing, and transforming data sets of different sizes and complexities that are both structured and unstructured.
- Expert in assimilating data from disparate sources that will augment existing data from and serve and new raw and feature based source data sets.
- Demonstrated expertise in the application of sound data modeling principles.
- Awareness of and practical exposure to machine learning and statistical methods both supervised and unsupervised methods, text mining, feature engineering, feature selection, model validation, and messaging.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze complex business problems and apply cost effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to provide perspective and make program recommendations based on data, modeling, and messaging requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, train, or mentor staff.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and recognition through publications, patents, or other means.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Flexibility to adapt to a changing and fast-paced environment.
Annual salary range: $130,000 - $145,000
CDPHP salary ranges are designed to be competitive with room for professional and financial growth. Individual compensation is based on several factors unique to each candidate, such as work experience, qualifications, and skills. In addition to cash compensation, CDPHP employees may be eligible for an incentive payment, a discretionary cash reward based on employee and company performance. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
