About the Role:
The New York Times is looking for an Android Engineer to join the Games mobile team. You'll join a team with native mobile engineers, QA, product, project, data, and design and report to the Games App Mobile Engineering Manager.

This is a hybrid role based in our NYC headquarters. You could typically expect to come into the office two days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test new features using Kotlin and other modern Android development tools and frameworks
- Work with product, PMO, design, data, QA, and other engineers to guide product development
- Participate in code reviews
- Ensure app stability by writing quality code and partnering with the QA team to test and fix bugs
- Collaborate with internal NYTimes services and external APIs
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years full time experience as an Android Engineer
- 2+ years of native app development experience working in Kotlin, including writing unit tests, networking, data persistence and UI
- Demonstrated understanding of Android design patterns, memory management and multi-threading
- Experience with layouts, themes, styles, views and other Android UI concepts
- Familiarity with managing app releases and the Google Play Store submission process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Coroutines
- Experience with Java
- Exposure to hybrid development
- Previous games experience or demonstrated interest in the NYT Games product
This role may require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$104,000—$140,000 USD
