Summary
If selected as an Animal Identification Coordinator, you will be assigned to Veterinary Services, Field Operations and will be responsible for identifying the herd of origin through the use of the animal identification program within an assigned geographic territory.

- All USDA employees are required to be enrolled in Continuous Vetting, which authorizes government agencies to receive notifications of criminal activity on individuals who hold low risk, public trust, or national security positions.
- Standing, walking, running, bending, crouching and is sometimes required to wear various types of protective clothing. At times, lifts weights up to 100 pounds.
- Must work in hard hat areas, mud, slush, wind, snow, blood, swine, and cattle pens, slaughter plants, and is required to drive many hours at a time.
- There is a high risk potential for exposure to unsafe working conditions and disease causing agents, some of which are highly contagious, infectious, and communicable to humans.
- Special safety control coordination, bio-security, and bio-safety precautions must be exercised and followed at appropriate times.
- Travel to field locations will be required; further, this position is subject to unscheduled overnight details of undetermined lengths in the event of animal health emergencies.
- Travel and work both in and outside of the United States in the performance of assigned duties is essential.
- May be required to obtain and maintain an Official Government Passport for work outside the United States.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level) that demonstrates:
Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university. Qualifying graduate courses include: agribusiness, agricultural chemistry, agricultural development, agricultural economics, agricultural education, animal breeding, animal genetics, animal health, animal nutrition, animal physiology, animal products, animal reproduction, animal science, animal toxicology, animal welfare, biological and agricultural engineering, beef cattle production, dairy herd management, dairy marketing, equine production, farm management, feeding management, meat science, physiology of lactation, poultry science, ruminant nutrition, swine production, and wildlife and fisheries sciences.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.
TRANSCRIPTS are required if:
FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level) that demonstrates:
- Applying the basic tenets of animal disease traceability programs with the guidance of more experienced staff.
- Conducting animal health activities in a variety of environments including markets, abattoirs, holding pens, and farm and ranch premises.
- Performing outreach and educating interested parties on the benefits of compliance with traceability programs.
Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university. Qualifying graduate courses include: agribusiness, agricultural chemistry, agricultural development, agricultural economics, agricultural education, animal breeding, animal genetics, animal health, animal nutrition, animal physiology, animal products, animal reproduction, animal science, animal toxicology, animal welfare, biological and agricultural engineering, beef cattle production, dairy herd management, dairy marketing, equine production, farm management, feeding management, meat science, physiology of lactation, poultry science, ruminant nutrition, swine production, and wildlife and fisheries sciences.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.

- You are qualifying for the position based on education.
- You are qualifying for this position based on a combination of experience and education.
- This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-07 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

- Locality pay will vary based upon the selectee's duty location. A final salary determination will be made upon selection.
- Promotion Potential: If you are selected for a position with further promotion potential, you will be placed under a career development plan, and may be non-competitively promoted if you successfully complete the requirements and if recommended by management. However, promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
- Worksite Information: This is a 100% remote position that must be located within the cities and/or counties listed in the vacancy announcement. The duty station for a remote designation is the selectee's home and must be established within the defined geographic options prior to start date. The selectee is not required to regularly work from a government facility however, the option may be available.
