Annotations System Engineer

The Annotation Systems Engineer role bridges between engineering and project management to support Simbe’s data annotation efforts through technical expertise and collaboration with relevant teams. The Annotation Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of annotation systems and data and usability of annotated data. While programming responsibilities are essential, the primary focus includes coordinating with teams and managing workflows to maintain high standards in data quality.

Responsibilities

• Annotation Process Management: Oversee the existing image annotation workflows, working closely with the annotation team to optimize processes and ensure efficiency.
• Guideline Development: Review, refine, and expand data annotation guidelines to support consistent data quality across projects.
• System Collaboration and Improvement: Partner with platform engineering teams to enhance current annotation systems and participate in the development of new systems to meet evolving needs.
• Quality Control: Develop and maintain systems to review and clean annotation data as necessary, implementing checks to ensure data integrity and usability.
• Data Collection System Maintenance: Manage the upkeep of existing data collection systems while designing and building new ones to improve data acquisition processes.
• Auto-Annotation Tool Integration: Research, evaluate, and integrate automated annotation tools to increase efficiency in the annotation pipeline.
• Team Performance Optimization: Benchmark performance metrics for the annotation team, manage capacity planning, and make recommendations for productivity improvements.

Requirements

• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across teams and clear documentation of processes and improvements.
• Technical Proficiency: Minimum of two years of experience in Python, Bash scripting, and web frontend programming, facilitating the development and maintenance of tools to support annotation processes.
• Source Control Knowledge: Familiarity with Git or similar source control systems to manage codebase and versioning is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science or related fields highly recommended but not required.
• Annotation Experience: Background in video annotation or annotations for robotics applications, which will be helpful for specialized tasks and understanding complex annotation requirements.
