Job Summary

The Application Engineer Senior will be responsible for building new and enhancing existing applications for OneAmerica. This role will work on an agile team to design and develop new technology solutions that will redefine how data is stored, managed, and retrieved for utilization across the enterprise. We are looking for a problem solver to add to our team focused on an enterprise-wide data modernization effort built on top of an enterprise NoSQL data hub.

The candidate will deliver high quality software by working in a team Agile/Scrum environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing code, scripts and data pipelines that leverage structured and unstructured data integrated from multiple sources.
  • Installing and configuring software.
  • Working with the vendor to understand roadmap plans for upgrades and new enhancement releases and their impact to the OA environment.
  • Ensuring the environments are operating efficiently including scheduling meetings and reviews to ensure environments are properly maintained including responding to production incidents and outages.
  • Developing and maintaining scripts that allow the servers to elastically expand and contract.
  • Developing project deliverable documentation and implementation plans including change requests, risk plans, and back out plans.
  • Working as part of a team for data centered solutions, independently developing components in sprints and recommending the breakdown of technical work into smaller tasks with appropriate dependencies documented.
  • Reporting on assigned tasks.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to define future data products.
  • In the spirit of continuous improvement, challenging the status quo and challenging others to rethink current processes, structures, policies, methodologies, and assumptions.
  • Participating in requirements and design workshops with our stakeholders.
  • Querying, mining, analyzing, and visualizing data to describe what is happening, what has happened, and trending.


Job Requirements

Required Education and/or Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline


Required Work Experience

  • 5+ years experience delivering software implementation projects including orchestrating technical work and deployment activities
  • 5+ years experience working with content/knowledge management systems, search engines, relational databases, NoSQL databases, ETL tools, geospatial systems, semantic technology, or enterprise software solutions.
  • Direct experience with commonly accepted industry architectures/technologies including J2EE, .NET, XML, XSLT, SOQ/Web Services, SQL, HTML, HTTP, JavaScript, REST
  • Hands-on experience with XML and related technologies (XSLT and/or XQuery)
  • Hands-on experience with JSON
  • Familiarity with cloud techniques such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), elasticity and last known good configuration recovery
  • Familiarity with cloud-based scripting languages such as Terraform and PowerShell
  • Experience working with and understanding of git-based code repositories
  • Proven experience supporting existing applications and troubleshooting to determine root cause and communicating root cause to multiple levels of IT and business leadership
  • Thorough knowledge of one or more programming languages
  • Working familiarity with multiple programming tools and development environments
  • Strong desire and ability to learn quickly and acquire new skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, high-growth startup environment
  • Able to identify appropriate actions to take and document/modify guidelines for others to follow; leading other developers to adopt and follow best practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of the SDLC process
  • Demonstrated understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Experience successfully contributing to projects with large to complex scope with examples of how they contributed to the success.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to gather information from disparate sources to identify trends/gaps and build solutions

Salary Band: 06C

As a condition of employment, OneAmerica requires that all new hires who receive a job offer on or after April 18, 2022 provide evidence of full or partial vaccination against COVID-19 within three days of accepting an offer letter with OneAmerica and before employment begins. This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN.The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, WI, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
