Application Performance Engineer

As an Application Performance Management (APM) Engineer on our Support Maintenance Services team, you will be responsible for all aspects of monitoring, and proactively improving where possible, the application performance of our Managed Accounts platform. This position requires a great eye for detail and a desire to coordinate with internal operations and technology teams to improve platform reliability for our clients. The APM Engineer will work with multiple internal teams to maintain and enhance our monitoring program with the goal of improving scalability and proactive issue detection.

Role Details:

• Utilize wide suite of tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, SolarWinds, and others) to quickly identify source of client issues and engage the appropriate teams
• Through the administration of our APM Health Review program, identify application issues before they become an issue for our clients
• Perform initial triage and troubleshooting of application issues to determine the appropriate path for prevention or resolution
• Perform postmortem analysis of application performance incidents, including recommendations for instrumentation of additional monitoring to prevent future occurrences
• Translate client issues into well documented, actionable bugs for engineering resolution
• Identify product observability improvements to drive better APM outcomes
• Propose and implement changes, as needed, to instrumentation of existing application performance monitoring tools and dashboards
• Work to roll out improvements to existing maintenance processes (i.e. – SQL Server queries, Database maintenance jobs)

Necessary Experience and Skills:

• BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or equivalent
• Familiarity with dashboarding and querying in Splunk
• SQL knowledge (T-SQL Preferred)
• Base-level understanding of programming languages (Java preferred)
• Eye for detail and exceptional troubleshooting skills
• Excellent documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with multiple different groups of varying technical skill
• Ability to handle escalated issues efficiently and effectively

 Nice to Have:

• MSCS is a plus
• Experience as a member of a Site Reliability team
• SQL Server Database Management experience
• SQL Performance Tuning
• Previous SaaS application support experience
• Relevant financial industry systems experience (e.g. Portfolio Management, Managed Accounts, Wealth Management, Trading, Middle/Back Office Operations)
