Application Software Developer

The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (CAD) in Alexandria, VA is seeking an Application Software Developerto develop, test, and integrate software for DHS applications. We are looking for a candidate with a strong passion, background, and experience in software discovery, design, coding, unit testing, vulnerability scanning, and documentation in Java and JavaScript. Additionally, the candidate should have functional experience or interest in programming in Golang and Python, and working with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and Ansible to orchestrate and automate deployments.

This work will place you with a team focused on an analytic environment in DHS, which enables users throughout the department to access and collaborate on their analysis projects. As a valued contributor to the team, your responsibilities will include (1) collaborative design, problem solving, and solution building with an integrated development and operations team, (2) building first-class software applications and services using the Java and JavaScript languages, (3) communicating with operators, administrators, and end-users and incorporating feedback into future tasks, (4) managing tasks using agile methodology, working with a team of developers to develop tasks and acceptance criteria, volunteer for tickets, track work, and report status, and (5) managing distributed code using responsible commit and branching methodologies in git.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong CS Background
• Bachelors degree in computer science or related field with 5-7 years of experience OR Masters degree in Computer Science or related field with 3-5 years of experience
• Strong Java programming skills
• Strong JavaScript programming skills
• Experience with common JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Vue.js, Angular, jquery, etc.)
• Experience building and interacting with RESTful APIs
• Proficient in git

The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility for DHS suitability and for access to classified information.

• Experience with Python
• Experience with Golang
• Familiar with PHP
• Experience with containerization (Docker or similar)
• Experience with container orchestration and management (Kubernetes or similar)
• Experience with container orchestration templating (Helm or similar)
• Experience with server automation and pipelines (Ansible, Jenkins, or similar)
• Experience using Linux and command line interface (CLI) tools
